sytycd season 8
It’s been so long since I’ve blogged but after watching sytycd… I just felt the HUGE URGE to blog about this!
I just wanted to list in point form regarding some of things that I would like to see on the show and improvements to it. (thought i should get down to this since it’s season 8 - 8 freaking years - time to voice out!)
- Please GET BETTER HIP HOP CHOREOGRAPHERS.
why? Because Chris who was the hip hop choreographer last night just didn’t seem to do the routines any justice. His routines are like Dan Karathy’s (whom Blake McGrath said wasn’t very good in season 1 - anyone remember?) They don’t entertain, the storyline isn’t well-told, I get lost/bored through the routines, there is no peak to his routines (nothing to look forward to or will make the audience go AHHHHH)
I also don’t understand why they don’t ask Wade Robson to create hip hop choreographies instead. Cos I’m pretty sure he will be WICKED with his choreographies
Marty K (his last name is just a mouthful, but he choreographs for Justin Timberlake) did 2 routines for sytycd but both pieces turned out flop cos the dancers JUST CAN’T DO his smooth lyrical hip hop. It would be AWESOME though if they could bring him back again and get dancers who CAN do his choreography.
I also don’t understand why younger choreographers/dancers can’t be brought in. People like Nick Bass, Misha Gabriel (MJ’s This is It dancers, Boa choreographers) Kenny Wormald. It’ll be a BLAST. After all, Travis Wall is a young choreographer! - Do something about the lack of female hip hop competitors!!!
Do you seriously think that there’s a lack of female hip hop dancers in USA? I DON’T THINK SO! Look at people like Ellen Kim, Gigi Torres - awesome hip hop dancers who have not auditioned
Or even members of Beatfreak (e.g. Rino Nakosone) - awesome professional hip hop dancers - they auditioned for another dance show instead. WHY?? may be someone should do a survey cos I just feel that this group of dancers are severely underrepresented! - How about placing dancers in groups - of 3 or of 4 - just like in the introduction - for competition - not everyone can do group routines well and that brings more variety to the show as well - better and more interesting choreography can be done with more dancers. It will be interesting. Some dances - e.g. hip hop choreography may benefit from a group performance rather than a pair performance as well.
- GET MIA BACK TO CHOREOGRAPH. seriously. I would rather see her work than see her judge cos her work just amazes.
